GSF Meet Alan Webb

The boys had a wonderful time tonight. Kip Legat was unable to attend due to an injury, but Alan Webb spoke for about an hour. He spent quite a bit of time talking about his HS years, which was especially nice for the kids. He also talked a lot about discipline being the key to success and the need to be willing to delay immediate gratification for larger goals. He said that he had to give up on the typical socialization most kids take for granted during HS for the hope that he'd be able to achieve great things in his sport. Although he lost a lot of friends who couldn't understand that, he had a core group of what he called "real friends" who understood and would make allowances for his limited time. He said the best part was that he knows without a doubt that they're genuine friends, because they stood with him when others dropped him and that they are still the people he trusts and wants to spend time with now.

Like the other elite runners the kids have been privileged to meet, he seemed genuinely pleased to have the chance to meet fans.  He congratulated Robbie & Jack on their successes so far and told them to keep training hard. He was kind enough to pose for a photo with the boys and Coach Mike.
