GRANITE STATE FLASH
The Granite State Flash is a
Manchester, New Hampshire
based USATF Junior Olympic
Cross Country program.
The team practices in
Manchester, N.H. from late
October to early December competing in the New England,Regional and National Championship competitions.
While the focus of the program
is cross country races,

Flash runners also compete
in various competitions throughout
the year including area road
races and the USATF
Junior Olympic Track & Field competition.

There are no tryouts and
runners born in the years
1992 through 1997 are
eligible to participate.

The focus of the Flash program
is running as a life long pursuit,
team competition,
sportsmanship,and
increasing personal fitness levels.

The program has grown over
the years to include runners
from throughout New Hampshire.
In 2001 the Flash began with
just two youth level teams
and twenty one runners. By
2003, the program had grown
to more than seventy runners
from Manchester and 16
surroundingcommunities participating on one of six
Flash teams. Two of those
teams qualified for the
National Championships
in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 2004 all six Flash
teams qualified and competed
at the Nationals held just
outside of Chicago, Illinois.
Three of those teams finished
in the top 10 in the U.S.

Most recently in 2005, seven
Flash teams qualified for
the National Championships held
in Providence Rhode Island, with
six of those teams earning top
10 finishes including two
teams winning
National Championship Titles and
another capturing a bronze.
Nine runners in 2005 earned
All-American honors
(top 25 individually in U.S.).

More importantly, Flash
runners have continued to run
and excel at the high-school
level and beyond.

Over the past three years
more than 20 former Flash
runners have finished in the top
25 of their respective high
school cross country
class championships with
two winning state high school
cross country titles and
fourteen later named to the
State Cross Country All Star
Team by the New Hampshire
Cross Country Coaches
Association.

Ironrunner

Coach Jan Platt received her USATF Ironrunner jacket following the Cape Cod Marathon. There were 80 runners, of which less than 20 were women, throughout the USATF-NE membership that received the jacket, which is earned by running all 7 USATF Grand Prix events. This was her first marathon, and she qualified for the Boston Marathon with over 19 minutes to spare.
